15). The mean of the three numbers 2X, 7X, X^2 ( X square) is 12 what is the range of the given data ( X<0).

Sol: (2X+7X+X^2)/3 = 12
9X+X^2=36
X^2+9X-36=0
By solving the roots are 3 and –12, but it is given that X<0 which means X= -12

18) A circle is drawn inside an other circle, the center of both circles are the same, the radius of the first circle is X and the radius of the second circle is X+Y , we are asked to find out the probability that if a point is taken from the circle the point should lie in the smaller circle of radius X.

Sol: Area of smaller circle = Pi ( X^2)
Area of larger circle = Pi ( X+Y)^2
The probability =number of favorable chance / Total number of chance
= (X^2) / (X+Y) ^ 2

19) There are 84 people who watch television and 72 members use pagers and X members watch only Television .
Col A Col B
Number of people use only pagers X – 12

Sol: Draw a Venn diagram
Total number of ppl who watch television = 84.
No of ppl who watch TV and use pager = 84-X
Number of ppl who use only pager = 72- ( 84 – X )
= 72- 84 + X
= X- 12
Therefore C is the answer.

34) Roger sold a watch at a profit of 10%. If he had bought it at 10% less and sold it for $13 less he would have made a profit of 15%. What is the cost price of the watch?

$220
$300
$400
$480
$540
Ans. let cost price b x
so profit 15% dat means sellin price is 1.1x
Nw purchasing at 10% less dat means 0.9x
sold for 13$ less i.e. (1.1x-13) & got profit of 15% means (15/100*90/100*x)=0.135x
selling price-purchase=profit
so (1.1x-13)-0.9x=0.135x
0.2x-13=0.135x
0.065x=13
x=200 $
so by increasing it 10% means $20 gives $200+$20 = $220......

55)You are given a square ABCD and E and F are the midponits of sides CD and DA then what is the ratio of area of the traiangle BEF and the square ABCD?
A) 3/8
B) 5/8
C)1/8
D)4/8
E)None!
Answer is A.
Sol,
Draw the figure(Its very easy to draw it). Let side of square be a.
see, now EF =Sqrt(DE^2+ FD^2) = a/sqrt2

and BE = sqrt(EC^2+BC^2) =sqrt((a/2)^2+a^2) = a/2*sqrt5

Area of BEF = 1/2*EF*BG (G is the perpendicular from B to EF)
BG^2+DE^2 = BE^2
=> BG = sqrt(5*a^2/4 - a^2/8) = 3a/2*1/sqrt2

So, Area = 1/2*a/sqrt2*3a/2*1/sqrt2 = 3a^2/8

56)Let A be a set of positive odd integers less than100. let B be the set of positive integers less than 5.Let C be the number of numbers consisting of the number of products of the numbers from the two sets.

a)24
b)42
c)84
d)104

Answer is C
Sol. x2 = 1/2*x1
x4 = 1/2*x3
x6 = 1/2*x5

Sum, these up
x2+x4+x6 = 1/2*(x1+x3+x5)

60)Given a circle 72 deg of the circle is shaded, now circle will look like sector with x,a,b points on the sector. Area of shaded region (sector) was 5pie\9.
Find length of arc?
a)pi\3
b)pi\4
c)pi\2
d)5pi\2
e)2pi\3

Ans E.
Sol..angle = 72=4*pi/10= 2/5*pi.
area of shaded portion = 5*pi/9
as, we know..area of a sector = 1/2*r^2*(angle) = 5*pi/9
substituting angle = 2/5*pi.
r = 5/3
so, arc= r*angle = 2*pi/3

3) Given a circle 72 deg of the circle is shaded, now crcle will look like sector with x,a,b points on the sector. area of shaded region (sector) was 5pie\9
find length of arc.

a)pi\3
b)pi\4
c)pi\2
d)5pi\2
e) 2pi\3

SOL: since the sector is making 72 degrees, so it is 1/5th of the full circle.
so area of circle = 5* area of sector = 25pie/9
or pie*r^2 = 25pie/9 or radius, r = 5/3
length of arc = angle of sector * radius = 72 * (pie/180) * 5/3 = 2pie/3

1. There were 36.000 hardback copies of a certain novel sold before the paperback version was issued. From the time the first paperback copy was sold until the last copy of the novel was sold. 9 times as many paperback copies as hardback copies were sold. If a total of 441.000 copies of the novel were sold in all, how many paperback copies were sold?
(A) 45.000
(B) 360.000
(C) 364.500
(D) 392.000
(E) 396.900

SOL: after first paperback released,,,,,upto last copy sold

total number of paperback copies sold = 9*total hardcopy sold

let hardcopies sold in this period = x,
then paperback sold in this period = 9x

9x + x = 441 - 36 = 405........( 441 - 36 is used coz 36 copies were sold b4 this period)

so x = 40.5,,,,or 9x = 364.5 = total paperback sold

SOL: area of two larger squares = 100 cm square

IN CASE OF 1ST LARGER SQUARE

area of new square formed = area of larger square - 4*area of triangle

area of new square formed = 100 - 4*(1/2)*5*5 = 50

IN CASE OF 2ND LARGER SQUARE

area of new square formed = 100 - 4*(1/2)*7*3 = 58

A triangle has its two sides equal to 4 and 25 units, and the third number is a prime number, What is the perimeter of the trinagle?

a)48 b)52 c)53 d) 58
Answer. B

Sol. sides are 4,25, so other side can be 22,23,24,25,26,27,28. {For a triangle, sum of two sides < third side}

Only possible prime number among these is 23. So, the answer is 23+4+25 = 52.

You are given a square ABCD and E and F are the midponits of sides CD and DA then what is the ratio of area of the traiangle BEF and the square ABCD?
A) 3/8
B) 5/8
C)1/8
D)4/8
E)None!
Answer is A.
Sol,
Draw the figure(Its very easy to draw it). Let side of square be a.
see, now EF =Sqrt(DE^2+ FD^2) = a/sqrt2

and BE = sqrt(EC^2+BC^2) =sqrt((a/2)^2+a^2) = a/2*sqrt5

Area of BEF = 1/2*EF*BG (G is the perpendicular from B to EF)
BG^2+DE^2 = BE^2
=> BG = sqrt(5*a^2/4 - a^2/8) = 3a/2*1/sqrt2

So, Area = 1/2*a/sqrt2*3a/2*1/sqrt2 = 3a^2/8
and ans is 3/8
